Stockholm Independent Film Festival 2023 is returning to our beloved Zita Folkets Bio on 26 and 27 May for a two-day edition. We are excited to once again celebrate independent cinema in our favourite place with our favourite audience. Over two days we will screen 20 indie short and feature narratives and documentary films by filmmakers from all over the world.
SIFF23 received over 2,000 submissions from more than 109 countries and by filmmakers from all walks of life. Using the most out of the independent cinema’s power, we have created a diverse and thought-provoking screening programme that is bound to take our audience on a journey around the globe. Over two days and 4 screening slots in total, our film selection is aimed to entertain, educate and address modern-day issues.
Part of our screening programme is the ‘Electric Malady’ by the Swedish director Marie Lidén, who was nominated in the 2023 BAFTA Awards in the Outstanding Debut category. In this captivating documentary, Lidén talks with William who suffers from electrosensitivity and lets him share his story.
‘Electric Malady’ is a modern folk-horror tale that confronts us with the reality of living with an illness that modern science can’t diagnose, but from which over 300,000 people in Sweden continue to suffer, Cineuropa.
In our Short Film category, you will find hidden gems such as ‘Tall Dark and Handsome’ by Sam Baron (UK), ‘Hämdervä’ by Eva Malmberg (SW) and ‘The Right Words’ by Adrian Moyse Dullin (FR).
